This is one of the coolest actions I’ve seen in a long time! I took these pictures last summer and have been pondering what to do with them for months now.  Leave it to Rita at CoffeeShop to inspire me!

This storyboard was created with CoffeeShop’s 20 x 10 PS/PSE Storyboard Free Action & Template.

Until I found this storyboard action, I couldn’t think of anything that struck my fancy for these pictures.

But this is it.  The story this storyboard tells me is about a 4 year old Big Girl’s summer.  The three pictures encapsulate where she was in life, from her momma’s perspective anyway.  The expressions, the sweaty-damp curls, those eyes and the cute little bathing suit she’s already outgrown.

The first picture is that precious smile that I see so many times a day.  That is Big Girl to me, in a nutshell.  “Mom, can I get back in the pool?  3 hours isn’t enough today.”

And the 2nd, well, that is my ever-patient daughter indulging me in yet another picture.  And on the verge of pouting.  Which is good, because I want to remember the pouts too.  I treasure every minute that I have with my beautiful kids.

And then the 3rd picture is the silly bubbly 4 year old.

So that’s the story my storyboard tells me.

The CoffeeShop action made it easy.  (Have you noticed I don’t do much photography-wise unless it’s easy?)

  • After the action starts, it prompts you to crop the images to fit the storyboard.
  • I changed the background color from white to the blue in Big Girl’s swimming suit, by using the eyedropper tool to set the color.
  • Finally, I added a CoffeeShop grunge texture, set the blend mode to Overlay and reduced the opacity a lot.

By the way, you wouldn’t believe how much I toned down the reds in Big Girl’s skin.  She turns into a tomato when its hot outside.  Does anyone know if a really good (and easy) way to reduce red in skin? I used the reds channel in a hue/saturation layer.  The results aren’t perfect, so I’m curious what other people do.
